Re: Nigeria, the nature of the new war

My attention had been drowned to the above name opinion written by Timawus Mathias in the Daily Trust of Wednesday April, 16 2016. The writer typical of him as a Nigerian never looked at the other side of the coin. Instead he joined privileged Nigerians, who can afford to have cars, demanding to have petrol at filling stations of their choice and at subsidize rate. Nigerian elites never recognize achievements easily.

If what the writer wrote and if what he quoted that, the Minister of State for Petroleum and GMD of NNPC, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu said was true and I quote: “For the first time in over 8 years we have been able to capture back system 2B all the way to Ilorin. For the first time in 6 years we were able to pump crude oil from Excavos to Warri Refinery, pump crude oil from Brass to Port Harcourt Refinery and also were able to pump crude from Warri to Kaduna…This is the first in over 10 years we have been able to accomplish this”.

Going by what the minister said, any right thinking Nigerian who believed this development is one of the best achievement of APC lead government under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, for the simple fact that, despite Nigeria attaining peak crude oil price around the world for up to 140 dollars, the previous administration with enough resources could not fixed the pipelines and refineries instead encouraging petrol importation to create Billionaires in the name of subsidy, only God knows how many modular refineries could have come on stream with aggregate of subsidy money paid to rent-seekers.

I urge the Buhari government to continue the good work. A true and sincere Nigerian will sympathize with this government having been on board just a year and struggling to stabilize the country despite lowest crude oil prices across the world, low foreign reserve, Boko Haram, kidnapping at its peak and vandalisation of oil installations in the Niger Delta.

Re: Feasting on pork barrels

Mahmud Jega’s discourse as it affects the budget imbroglio is one case too many. This document has suffered so much delay in treatment to become implementable where cases of padding, omission and commission becomes the order of the day. If Rep. Jibrin is accused of padding his constituency projects unknown to other members, then Honorable Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amechi is also guilty the same offence for padding a non-executive proposal. The thing to happen is for the two arms to synchronize all the gray areas for the president to assent to the document for implementation. Abdulkadir Mamman, Abuja

Re: 90,786 candidates battle for 26,000 Unity College admission slots

Sir, the attention of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been drawn to a news report on page 10 of Daily Trust, Monday, April 18, 2016 publication titled, ‘90,786 Candidates battle for 26;000 Unity College admission slots,’ wherein the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO was erroneously addressed as Registrar/Chief Executive of NCEE (which is National Common Entrance Examination). Please correct the mistake to avoid confusing the reading public on the proper designation of Prof Abdulrashid Garba as the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO. Thank you.

Azeez Sani, Head; Information and Public Relations, NECO.

On the definition of ‘Comrade’

Please extend my congratulations to Alhaji Yasin, the current Makaman Gusau. He deserves any accolade but now not labour’s ‘COMRADE’. Governor Adams Oshimohle rose to prominence courtesy of Labour and Alh Aliko Dangote is one of the Labour’s friends …but both are not comrades. Can Mahmud Jega and Mohammed Haruna research and educate us more on the current meaning and the use of the word ‘COMRADE’.

This change…

What kind of change is this change? The price of almost everything has increased, without salary increase, including normal text message from N4 to N4.50K. The change most Nigerians voted for is decrease in the cost essential commodities. The reverse is what we can see, increase in most commodities is what we are seeing. Would these increased prices go back to what it used to be? Can there ever be a change for better?

On Fayose and letter to China

To those of us following the story, it is shocking to learn that his Excellency behaved that way, as described by some statesmen as felling short of his exalted office. We are suggesting that Governor Ayodele Fayose should always consult the team of good elders around him for excellent advice before representing Nigerians on matters like this. I assume there is decorum in politics, anyway.

Haba, senators…

Nigerian lawmakers should have fear of God in whatever they are doing. When their countrymen and women are crying of hunger, unemployment; majority of Nigerians cannot afford two meals in a day. When the country is broke, they are busy buying 35 million naira cars for themselves. I suggest we should change to unicameral legislature, because Nigeria cannot afford to be spending huge sum of money on just few individuals.
