President of APPOEMN, Mrs Adefunke Kuyoro, stated that since parties and events revolve around people, every stakeholder in the industry should be well trained on how to effectively uphold safety and health protocol in planning and organising events.

Kuyoro also noted that the events’ sector was heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which is the reason for the theme of the upcoming event: ‘The New Dawn’ and why TEIC is designed to educate and empower Nigerians, especially event planners and party organisers.

“The industry is one of the worst-hit due to the pandemic. So, it is important that stakeholders in the event planning and organising industry are well equipped to cope with ‘the new normal’ necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to concentrate on the welfare and empowerment of our members towards organising successful events,” Kuyoro said.

Gbemisola Ope, Chairperson of the planning committee of TEIC and immediate past President of APPOEMN, added that setting standards and ensuring professionalism among members are key targets of the association.

“Our upcoming conference is basically packaged for experienced and aspiring event planners and organisers to get equipped with best practices for events.

“If other sectors are driven by professionals, the event industry should not be left out because it involves the safety and comfort of people, and that is why industry players should be well trained.

“We shall also be giving awards to outstanding stakeholders in these categories: diversification, support, innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Kuyoro also revealed that part of the plans of the association before COVID-19 was to start forming chapters in various regions in the country.

She then announced the creation of the Abuja Chapter of the Association at the event.
