APPEALS Project trains 100 people with disabilities

To enable them become independent and resourceful, the Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS Project) has trained 100 people living with disabilities on various farming skills in Kano.

The five-day training held at the Royal Tropicana Hotel by the Faculty of Agriculture, Bayero University, Kano, equipped the beneficiaries with skills on financial and marketing on aquaculture, poultry, rice and wheat value chains, under the Women and Youth Empowerment Programme (WAYEP).

During the graduation ceremony, the state’s project coordinator of the APPEALS, Mallam Hassan Ibrahim, said that after the training, each of the beneficiaries would receive inputs of his or her selected value chain worth N2 million as a capital.

He said that in line with the APPEALS Project policy to engage physically challenged people to become independent, the programme carefully selected them out of 225 of people that applied for the support.

While assuring that they would soon get alert in their accounts, Ibrahim said, “We always consider you as very important people. That is why we addressed you as people with special needs. You are very lucky today to be part of this programme, and very soon, we will register you with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Open your bank accounts and you will receive alerts of N2 million each.”
