The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Terwase Peter Uche has been declared winner for the Guma 1 state constituency by-election conducted on Saturday in Benue State.
APC’s Uche polled a total of 5,289 to beat his closet rival, Jimmin Geoffrey of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) who scored a total votes of 4,134 while the Labour Party candidate came a distance third with 2,833 votes.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate polled 121 votes while African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate scored a total of 72 votes.
Returning Officer, Prof Julius Ikya, of the Joseph Sarwaun Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) declared Uche winner of the election about 10:30pm on Saturday.

Our correspondent reports that the five political parties which participated in the by-election include the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA).
The election was conducted in 116 polling units of six Registration Areas namely Uvir, Nyiev, Mbayer/Yandev Mbawa, Mbadwen and Mbabayi.
