The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the seats in Saturday’s Ekiti State local government elections.

The party won all the 16 local government council chairmanship seats and the 22 chairmanship of the local council development areas (LCDAs) and the 177 councillorship seats in the election.

The result was announced on Sunday at the Situation Room of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) in Ado Ekiti, where the Returning Officers (ROs), in all the LGAs and LCDAs took turns to present the results of the various council areas.

Addressing the gathering, EKSIEC Chairman, Justice Cornelius Akintayo (Rtd) commended the people of the state for the peaceful atmosphere under which the election was conducted.

He also commended the parties that took part in the election for their sportsmanship as well as the staff who worked on the field, the security agents and the media for a job well done.

Daily Trust reports that the polls recorded low turnout of voters, just as the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not participate in the election.

Commercial activities went on unhindered in so many places while the election lasted, even though there was restriction during the election.

Assessing the polls, Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, said local government elections can get better, as the most critical arm of government in respect of delivery government policy at the grassroots level.
