The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said many governors, senators and other bigwigs elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would dump the party after its congresses and national convention.

The PDP also expressed optimism that some of its governors who left in recent time would fail to actualise their ambitions in the APC and return before the 2023 general poll.

Gale of defections have hit the PDP as critical stakeholders including governors have continued to jump ship to the ruling party.

Speaking with Daily Trust in a telephone interview yesterday, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi said the chances of the PDP reclaiming power in 2023 were still bright.

“That some governors are leaving does not mean that the party is going to die. The party will survive. Some peoole have left before. The people that left still came back but the party remains.

“So irrespective of anything that happened, the party will remain and it is not going to affect our chances in the 2023 elections because in politics, 24 hours is a long time.

“And who told you that by the time the APC finishes its congresses and national convention, some governors will not be aggrieved there too, and defect to the PDP?

“Governor Umahi left because he thought the APC will zone presidential ticket to the South-East. Whenever that fails, there is possibility of him coming back to the PDP.

“The other governor said he left because he wanted to assist President Muhammadu Buhari to fight insecurity. But the moment he realise that the voters and masses in his state do not like the APC, he is likely return to PDP,” he said.
