The North West Presidential Campaign Council of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Northerners to disregard elders advising them against voting for the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in next year’s general election.
In a statement Sunday, the spokesman of the council, Muhammad Shehu Molash, said Tinubu emerged as one of the believers of the Nigerian project as reflected by his constant support for the presidential candidates of northern extraction.
There is acrimony and disaffection in the APC over the issue of a Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket, which has continued to rage unabated.
But the party’s campaign council said, “The Tinubu/Shettima joint presidential ticket is merely coincidental and not out of any desire to suppress a particular set of people.”

Part of the statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a widely circulated voice note of a supposedly northern elder, Alh Sani Zangon Daura, calling on Northerners to reject the presidential candidates of southern Nigeria’s extraction.
“The North West APC Presidential Campaign Council is therefore calling on Northerners to disregard the antics of these elders, who hide behind a bogus northern agenda, to promote their individual and self-serving interests.”
