APC to hold NEC, caucus meetings Sept, non-elective convention December

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved September for the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This followed a letter earlier transmitted to the President by the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, asking him to approve a date for the meetings.

Top sources at the APC National Secretariat told Daily Trust on Wednesday in Abuja that the president has approved that the National Caucus and NEC meetings should be held between September 8 and 12.

One of the sources said the president has also approved December for a non-elective convention of the party, but added that the actual date is yet to be fixed.

It was gathered that the president’s letter dated August 9 was sent through his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

This is the first time the party is organising NEC, Caucus and non-elective national convention since Ganduje became national chairman on August 3, 2023. Since assuming office, some APC members and leaders have consistently criticised Ganduje for not convening the meetings where key decisions would be reached in the interest of the party.

Recall that there had been protests in recent times over the issue with some party members calling for Ganduje’s resignation as APC helmsman.

Reacting, the party’s North Central Forum led by Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga commended President Tinubu for calling for the NEC meeting to hold in September.

“This has been our long term cry of the North Central APC so that many issues concerning the party can be addressed, and so that we can equally table our grievances from the North Central region and get it addressed before we forge ahead and intensify our plans ahead of the 2027 election,” Zazzaga said.
