A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed September 9 for the hearing of the suit seeking the disqualification of Aminu Kanta’s nomination as the House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State over alleged false information.
Justice Emeka Nwite had adjourned the matter to enable Sunusi Musa, counsel for Isa Dogonyaro, to file a response to the defendant’s counter affidavit.
In the originating summon with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1052/2022, Aminu Kanta served as commissioner and special adviser in the state from 2015-2022 with the name Ahmed Mohammed.
The plaintiff said in the affidavit in support of the originating summon that the same person contested the party primary under a different name, Aminu Kanta, on May 28, 2022, after resigning as a special adviser in Jigawa State on May 16 under the name of Ahmed Mohammed.
Dogonyaro is asking the court to hold that the academic records Kanta submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) contained some inconsistencies.
