APC Primaries: Oshiomole Wins Edo North Senatorial Ticket

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomole on Saturday, clinched the Edo North senatorial ticket of the party for the forthcoming 2023 election.

The former Edo State governor scored 309 votes to pick the ticket while his opponent, Sen. Francis Alimikhena, polled five votes even though he had withdrawn from the contest.

The party’s returning officer of the primary, Festus Ebia, said 317 delegates were accredited for the election, Oshiomole, scored 309, Alimikhena polled five votes while three votes were voided.

“Oshiomole having scored the majority votes of 309 and satisfied the requirement of the election is hereby declared winner,” he said.

Responding, Oshiomole commended the national body for conducting a transparent primary election.

“If God gives me the victory in the main election, I will ensure that the voice of Edo North would be loud and clear the same way I did as governor of the state.”

He promised to work with other senators to ensure that the senate functions in a manner that reflects the will and aspiration of the people.

Oshiomole urged Alimikhena to find the courage to accept the outcome of the election in good fate the same way his opponent accepted him in 2015 and 2019 when he emerged.

In Edo South, Valentine Asuen, former Edo State youth leader emerged as the party’s candidate.

He defeated Lucky Imasuen, his rival and former Edo State deputy governor, after polling 215 votes.
