APC Primaries: El-Rufai’s candidate wins in Kaduna, ex-INEC REC Clinches Plateau ticket

The Senator representing Kaduna Central, Uba Sani, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Kaduna State.

Sani, who is Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s anointed candidate, defeated a former Assistant Controller of Customs, Bashir Abubakar with 1,149 votes against 37 votes and former rep member, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Sha’aban, who scored 10 votes.

Daily Trust reports that the primary election which came to an end at the Umaru Yar’Adua hall of the Murtala Square at 2:15am had 39 invalid votes.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the APC electoral committee, Anachuna Henry declared Uba Sani as the winner saying there were 1,275 delegates but only 1,245 were accredited while 1,196 casted their votes.

In his acceptance speech, Sen. Uba Sani appreciated delegates, party officials and members of the electoral umpire. He assured that he would visit the two unsuccessful aspirants and urged them to work with him in the interest of the party.

In Plateau, ex-Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Nentawe Yilwada, won the APC ticket.

Daily Trust correspondent reports that Dr. Nentawe was elected midnight, at the party’s primary, held at Landfield Hotel, Jos South Local Government Area of the State.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the exercise, Hon Habu isa Ajiya, said Yilwada, who polled 803 ahead of Dr. Patrick Dakum, who scored 70 votes.

According to the chairman, nine aspirants were in the race but before the commencement of the exercise, five aspirants sent in their letters of withdrawal.

They are; Sunday Garba Biggs, Dr. Sarpiya Danyaro, Sen. Hezekiah Dimka, Dr. Patrick Dakum and Arch. Fitka.

He said other aspirants scored the following votes

  • Arch. Fitka 2
  • David Victor Dimka 7
  • Hezekiah Dimka 6
  • Garba Pwol 2, Danyaro Sarpiya 4
    Sonni Tyoden 25
    Sunday Biggs 0

Daily Trust reports that Dimka, Dakum and Tyoden walked out of the venue while the election was ongoing.
