A member representing Isa-Sabon Birnin Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Engineer Aminu Isa, has lost his ticket to a 34-year civil servant, Bello Shehu Suleiman at the just-conducted primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state.
Suleiman is an administrative officer of the Nigeria Communication Satellite who just ventured into politics.
He defeated the member with a landslide as he scored 591 votes out of the 599 votes cast during the primaries held in Isa local government area.
The member scored only seven votes while one vote was declared invalid.
The primaries was conducted on 5th of this month after it had suffered series of postponements.
The lawmaker was said to have stayed away from the venue of the primaries despite the postponements.
“He (the member) had confidence of winning the ticket because of the incumbency factor but he was disgraced by the civil servant who stayed with us for three days,” one of the delegates said.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Suleiman said the area had been lacking qualitative representation at the national assembly.
He said that he joined the race to change the trend as their people deserved much from the national level.
He said he would focus on education, health and business development aimed at poverty eradication if elected into office.
According to him, he would facilitate the transformation of education in the area through renovation and construction of classes, teachers’ training and provision of teaching aids and equipment.
He also promised to facilitate the execution of constituency projects that would have direct bearing on the locals.
Suleiman, who is a heir to the Sultanate throne, expressed appreciation to the delegates for their support and assured that he would carry them along if elected.
