The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), through the Pacesetters Initiative (TPI), on Sunday, asked Governor Seyi Makinde to account for the security votes he received from the federal government since his assumption of office.
The group, after its meeting in Ibadan on Sunday, said unofficial sources have it that the state in recent times emerged the most troubled in the southern part of the country.
Listing some of the challenges facing the state, the group in its communiqué, said cases of armed banditry, kidnapping, attacks by hoodlums, murder, extra-judicial killings, gang wars, among others are being reported on a daily basis across the state.
The coordinators of the group, Afeez Bolaji Repete and Olawale Sadare, blamed the spate of insecurity in the state on “Gov. Makinde’s alleged incompetence, inexperience and grandstanding.”
Reacting to the allegations, the publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Engr Akeem Olatunji, urged the group to talk to President Muhammadu Buhari on the security challenges in the country, saying security lapses were not limited to Oyo State.
Olatunji said the state government was investing huge resources on Amotekun and other security agencies to ensure the state is well-positioned to tackle insecurity in the state.
