APC kicks as PDP asks Sanwo-Olu to step aside over Lekki incident

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos has asked the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to step aside over the October 20 shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate in Lagos.

The party said this became expedient following revelation by the Nigerian Army that it was the Governor who called for the deployment of the Army to enforce the curfew imposed on the state.

Lagos PDP spokesperson, Taofiq Gani said the honourable thing for the governor to do is to resign following the revelation by the Army.

“Obviously Lagosians can no longer trust a governor who denies his conspiracy actions in government,” he said.

According to him, Sanwo-Olu has “no moral standing” to remain in office and that “he should admit this and honorably leave the stage as governor of the state.”

APC Reacts

But the ruling APC described the call as “uncouth”, saying the governor remains undaunted.

The ruling party said the call for governor’s resignation “remains the wish of a frustrated opposition battling its permanent implosion.”

“The Lagos state government, ably led by Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu remains undaunted and can not be distracted in delivering on its social contract with the people.

“The security of lives and property and all-round development remain the priority of the Lagos state government,” Oladejo said.

The APC spokesman said the fact-finding committee on the Lekki incident should be allowed to do its work.
