APC has no candidates for elective offices in Zamfara – NRM

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has no candidate for all the elective offices for 2019 general elections due to its failure to conduct primaries before the stipulated deadline set by the electoral body.

NRM’s national chairman and governorship candidate in Zamfara, Senator Saidu Dansadau, stated this on Monday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

He said, “We have written INEC that NRM is aware and has legally noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was unable to conduct primaries for all elective offices in Zamfara, in view of the power tussle between two factions of the party in the state.

“Based on the provision of the electoral act and in fact the constitution, the APC has no candidate for all the elective offices in Zamfara State for next year’s general elections. Our contenders are only political parties that were able to meet up with INEC deadline.”

He however, expressed confidence on INEC, saying NRM firmly believed that the electoral body is doing its best to improve on the conduct of elections.

Senator Dansadau therefore appealed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to mellow down and desist from incessant attack on INEC.

He said though there is no wrong in crying foul if a party perceives any irregularity in the conduct of elections but such should be done through legal means.

He also called on all political parties to regard INEC as a critical institution and give it necessary cooperation toward the conduct of successful elections.

He urged that all political parties should see security agencies as critical partners in their quest to ascend to political office.

As the National Assembly resumes legislative duties, Senator Dansadau called on lawmakers to shun the idea of impeachment but instead focus on legislative business.
