APC govs, ministers, others to speak on internal democracy at confab

Some governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ministers and Senate President, Ahmed Lawan are to discuss how to enshrine genuine internal democracy in the party at a conference in Abuja.

In a statement on Wednesday, Chairman Conference Planning Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ayeni, said the event would take place on December 18, in Abuja.

The conference with the theme, “Contestation, a Veritable Process in Deepening Democratic Norms, Values and Culture: The APC Story” will have in attendance Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and Governor Abubakar Mohammed Inuwa of Gombe State.

The Director-General of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, is billed to deliver a paper on the theme of the conference.

According to the statement, a former governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Idris Wase; Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu; Women Representative in the APC Caretaker Committee, Mrs. Stella Okotete; Ministers of Petroleum Resources and Information will be at in attendance.

The Senate President is expected to give a keynote address while the Deputy Speaker will highlight efforts of the National Assembly on the ongoing constitutional review.

According to the statement, “The aim of the programme is to help deepen Nigeria’s democracy.”
