Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) operating under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) have welcomed the Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, into their fold.
Umahi had, on Tuesday, pitched tent with the APC as a second term governor elected on the platform of the PDP.
Chairman of the PGF and Kebbi State governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, in a statement yesterday, said Umahi’s defection to the APC showed that the ruling party had the capacity to mobilise and unite all Nigerians.
“We celebrate the decision of Chief Umahi as a testament to our party’s capacity to mobilise all Nigerians.
“The vision of the founding fathers of our legacy parties is for the APC to serve as a platform to unite all Nigerians under a progressive umbrella.
“With Chief Umahi now in APC, the vision is further reinforced and shall contribute to the process of membership and leadership recruitment at all levels,” he said.
“Our National Caretaker Extraordinary/Convention Planning Committee is working to ensure the institution of a solid foundation for our democratic development as a party.
“We are confident that the National Caretaker Extraordinary/Convention Planning Committee will soon release a detailed programme of activities leading to the National Convention,” the PGF said.
