A faction of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara state has called for the cancellation of last Saturday’s ward congress which was held at the 193 wards in the state alleging that the party leadership does not give a level playing ground to all parties.
The group also alleged national congress committee from Abuja of not interacting with a broad section of the party members but hobnobbed with Senator Bukola Saraki led faction of the party.
The group made the call in Ilorin yesterday during a press conference where they condemned the last weekend congress saying it was characterized with outright rigging and manipulation therefore cannot represent the genuine will of the people.
The spokesperson of the group, Alhaji Muhammed B. Sakiwa said the group still hold firmly to the assurance of President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu but condemned what they described as antics of Saraki.
"…Kwara state chapter of APC under Saraki has been consistently mounting roadblocks that are intended to frustrate our group in accessing the national leadership programme of our party and more importantly relegating our contributions to the strength of APC in Kwara state. We believe this is a conscious plot to weaken our political structure, undermine our political goodwill and render our members disenchanted and discouraged. Unfortunately, the national leadership has been recognising only Saraki led faction to the exclusion and disadvantage of our group.
"In the light of the above, it is our conviction that only the cancellation of of last weekend’s so-called ward congress in Kwara state purportedly conducted by Saraki led faction and guarantee of transparency in subsequent exercises that would restore the confidence and loyalty of millions of APC members in the state."
"We look forward to the ward congress appeal committee whom we shall be seeking audience with to officially lodge our complaints and it is our prayer that the committee will not allow itself to be hijacked by the governor and Saraki but truly sek to redress all injustice committed last Saturday," the group said.
In his reaction, the publicity secretary of Saraki led faction of APC, Sulaiman Buhari denied all the allegation and insisted that there is not faction in Kwara APC as they are one family.
"Let me say here that the congress held last weekend was free, fair and every member of the party were carried along. So if anybody is complaining of being sidelined and in as much as they cannot come and lodge complain at the party secretariat, that means they are not bonafide member of our party," Buhari said.
