APC denies attempt to thumbprint fresh ballot papers

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna has denied the allegation made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that they attempted to thumbprint fresh ballot papers before their admission as evidence in court.

A video clip trending on social media, obtained by Daily Trust on Sunday, shows some PDP members sorting ballot papers and booklets which would be presented as evidence at the Governorship Tribunal sitting in the state claimed to be recently thumb printed.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the APC’s Secretary, Yahaya Baba Pate, dismissed the PDP’s allegation as an attempt to mislead the Tribunal and the public.

He emphasized that the APC has always been committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and adherence to the rule of law.

“We categorically deny any involvement or intention to thumbprint ballot papers before their admission as evidence in court. Such baseless accusations are nothing more than an attempt by the PDP to divert attention from their misconduct and discredit the ongoing tribunal proceedings,” he said.

The APC called on the PDP to refrain from using subterfuge in their desperate attempt to gain an unfair advantage at the Gubernatorial Elections Tribunal.

They urged the PDP to respect the judicial process, present their case with credible evidence, and avoid spreading misinformation that undermines the credibility of the tribunal and the democratic institutions of the country.

Furthermore, the APC called on the security agencies to investigate the PDP elements involved in the incident at the INEC office.

Attempts were made to contact the PDP’s State Secretary, Ibrahim Wosono, for further clarification on the issue, but his calls went unanswered.

When contacted about the issue, INEC Head of Department Publicity and Voter Education State, Rukayya S. Imam, referred to the raised issue as a mere allegation and declined to comment further.
