APC convention: Stepping down for Buhari’s choice very difficult – Senator Musa

The Chairman, Senate Services Committee and a frontline aspirant for the National Chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Sani Musa, has withdrawn from the race.

In an interview with Arise TV, Musa said the decision to withdrawal from the race was a difficult one he had to make because of the supremacy of the party.

Musa and other chairmanship aspirants have stepped down for the former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, the preferred candidate of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said, “It was a very difficult decision for somebody like me because I knew the kind of popularity and followership that I had; but foremost, the interest of the party is number one. The supremacy of the party is important because we all subscribed to be members and we stated that we will abide by what the party comes up with.”

“In my past interviews, I have always said that whatever the leader of the party who is the President of this country says; for the respect of his person, for the respect of his office, there is nothing he would ask of me that would be difficult for me to deliver.

“My followers believe in that too because we need unity in this country. The party itself is at a crossroads, I would not want to be another party that would add to the issues that are already in the party.”

He said members were determined to bring the APC together and build a united party that would face the opposition parties in the next general elections.

Musa added, “I don’t see why my personal interest should override that of the party that is trying to create unity. I believe all others (aspirants) did the same. The unity of the party is greater than our collective or individual ambition. We all collectively agreed that we should unite and give Abdullahi the chance.”
