A national ex-officio member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Yekini Nabena, has lauded the focus of the federal government on the amnesty programme on agriculture.
Nabena, who lauded the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, retired Gen. Paul Boroh, for sustaining the programme, said President Muhammadu Buhari is an incorrigible and disciplined leader who intends to alleviate the suffering of the Niger Delta people.
He called on the President to further sustain the programme with funds at this time of policy redirection towards economic diversification.
He said: “President Buhari should make more funds available to the amnesty programme with a dedicated emphasis on funds for agriculture, to align our aspirations in the region with the vision of his government’s intentions to diversify our nation’s economy through sustained and targeted policy proposals on mechanized farming.
“This way, more jobs will be created for the youths with a view of engaging them adequately and productively,” he said.
The APC chieftain backed the president’s meeting with the Niger Delta militants and urged the groups to drop their weapons and embrace peace.
He urged all the stakeholders in the Niger Delta region to support retired Brig. Gen. Boroh for the programme to succeed.
