The immediate past Managing Director of Polaris Bank, who is also a former commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, Mr Tokunbo Abiru, Thursday, emerged as the APC senatorial candidate for the October 31 Lagos East by-election.
Abiru was the sole candidate of the party who participated in the direct primary conducted across the senatorial district.

He was declared the flag bearer of the party with a total of 111,551 votes cast for him by members of the party.
The Chief Returning Officer, Ibrahim Masari, said the votes were returned from the five local governments – Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, Kosofe and Somolu – that make up the senatorial district covering 71 wards.
Similarly, Obafemi Saheed scored a total of 34,012 votes only from the six wards that make up Kosofe 2 constituency.
Spokesman of the APC Seye Oladejo said, “With the emergence of our candidates, all is now set for APC to contest and retain the respective legislative seats.”
Meanwhile, former deputy national chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George, Thursday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the report of the 2014 National Conference conducted by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He also called for the retention of zoning and rotational presidency, while disagreeing with those calling for competence as the parameter for selecting who becomes the next president.
George spoke in Lagos during a meeting with PDP aspirants in the Lagos East senatorial election and Kosofe 2 constituency ahead of the primaries slated for Saturday.
Speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the meeting, he also restated his call for restructuring and devolution of power to make the states more viable, saying no part of Nigeria has not got one resource or the other.
Speaking further, the PDP chairman advised the aspirants to sustain the path of peace and to conduct themselves with decorum ahead of the primaries.
