The All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to boycott the forthcoming local government election in Sokoto State.
The state chairman of the party, Isa Sadiq Achida, disclosed this on Sunday.
“Our position is due to the glaring fact that members of the State Independent Electoral Commission are all card-carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are always dancing to its tunes.
“In the light of these circumstances and after due consultations with all stakeholders of our party in the state, the Sokoto State chapter of the APC has resolved not to participate in the forthcoming local government elections,” he said.
Reacting, the secretary of the commission, Nasir Yahya Isa, said the party only made the allegations to cover its main reason for boycotting the election which was lack of funds.
He said the commission had convened three meetings but that “APC attended only one where all the parties pleaded with us to make forms affordable to their candidates which was done.”
On the allegation that they were PDP’s members, he said the commission chairman was not known in the state and didn’t even have a voter’s card while other members have not been in politics.
