The Apapa Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), says it has collected a total of N86.023 billion as revenue for October 2021 despite initial glitches which tended to slow down its operations

It said the tempo of increase in revenue collection is sustained through the volume of trade and strategies employed by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Malanta Yusuf.

The command said during the month under review, the controller raised stakeholders’ compliance level coupled with inter-agency collaborations between the command and other government agencies.

Yusuf, while giving a breakdown of the total collection, showed the federation and non-federation figures. He said for the federation account, Customs collected N44.6bn from import duty, excise duty, Common External Tariff (CET) and fees.

For the non-federation account collection, Customs recorded N18.8bn from port levy, NAC, 1% CISS, ETLS, sugar levy, wheat flour levy, iron levy, wheat grain levy, and ness levy.

For Value Added Tax (VAT), the command collected N22.6bn leading to a total of N86.02bn, he said.

He assured that the command will not compromise wherever and whenever the need arises to make arrests and seizures for infractions deserving of such actions

He, therefore, charged the command’s compliance team to maintain their zero-tolerance for infractions as a way of protecting the national economy.W
