The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said it generated the sum of N N140.3 billion in the third quarter of the year as against the N110bn it collected in the same period in 2019.

The Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Mohammed Abba-Kura, made this disclosure on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the command’s revenue profile for the third quarter of the year spanning July to September.

Abba-Kura said the revenue shows a progressive difference of N30.081bn, depicting a 27 per cent increase of collection for the period under review.

The Controller also noted that the cumulative revenue collection of the Command from January to September, 2020 amounts to the sum of N367.7bn against the sum of N313.5bn which was collected in the same period in 2019.

He said: “This shows a significant increase difference of N54.2bn representing a 17 per cent increase.

“The difference recorded was made possible as a result of the resilience of officers in ensuring that importers and agents are made to do proper declarations, adhere strictly to import/export guidelines in tandem with extant laws” he added.

On export, the controller said N26.3bn worth of raw materials were exported through the command within the same period.

He listed the goods exported to include: mineral resources, steel bars, agricultural products among others with a total tonnage of 378,447 million tonnes and Free On Board (FOB); valued at $85.8m.
