The Concerned Northern Forum (CNF), a coalition of 79 civil society and community-based organisations, has called on Nigerians to rally round the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies in their effort to rid Nigeria of corruption.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Chairman of CNF, Alhaji Aliyu Sani, said with the support and cooperation of Nigerians, the country would soon be free of corruption.

He condemned the calls for the removal of the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, describing it as a classical example of corruption fighting back.

He said, “We have observed that persons and organisations standing trial for corrupt practices try to play the ostrich. It is no longer news that most of the acclaimed Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) are paid urchins of indicted persons.

Merchants of Fake News Have Failed – Buni

“They employ a strategy of smear campaigns in an attempt to divert attention from their crimes, distract investigation and delay administration of justice. Several of our members have been approached for this hatched job; to make wild allegations against the EFCC boss and other top security operatives, but none of them accepted to be dragged into the dirty game of mudslinging.

“This recent allegation of disrespect to the rule of law by the acclaimed 130 CSOs is not different as it is also aimed at diverting the attention of the anti-graft agency and its leadership from bringing corrupt individuals and organisations to justice.”
