The Oyo State Government has begun sensitisation of butchers and livestock dealers on the deadly anthrax disease.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan, said the state government would strengthen surveillance of abattoirs for detection and prevention of animal diseases.

He said the sensitisation team had visited Amosun Central Abattoir, Lam Adesina International Cattle Market and the Goat Market; all in Akinyele LGA.
Olaleye explained that the sensitisation was part of the state government’s effort to forestall the outbreak of anthrax in the state.(
He said anthrax was a serious infectious disease caused by a bacteria known as bacillus anthracis, which occured naturally in the soil and affected domestic and wild animals. NAN)
