In less than three months that the President of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ilorin, Mr. Alao Idris fondly called “Observation”, was placed on the university’s website as the second runner up in a national essay competition organized by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN), the Glorious Islamic Centre, Lagos has found him worthy of being an award winner.
In an essay competition keenly contested by 136 entrants that cut across primary, secondary and tertiary categories, the president was declared 3rd prize winner.
This time, the topic is the ‘Contribution of Islam to the development of Modern day Medicine’ – A Realm of knowledge not within those areas one would have expected the writer to possess an in-depth knowledge.
Since his very first year in the university, Alao has set himself apart for scholarship and research-oriented venture. This is not to mention other awards and prizes including the coveted University of Ilorin scholarship he enjoys. He is now making his record as a multi-award winner in the university.
As the president of Campus Journalists, Alao is endowed with the leadership skills with which he guides members and makes them do assigned jobs. His principle is; if you want a perfect job, do it yourself.
When contacted, Idris expressed gratitude to Almighty God for crowning his efforts and dedicated the award to all members of the union of Campus Journalists who were a supporting pillar for him and to all students of the university.
It is important to note that in recent years, Unilorin students have become known in writing award winning essays. They have received publication credits from religious, corporate and professional organizations and  online media outfits.
