Another building collapses in Lagos

A building belonging to Chris Divine Church at Onipanu area of Lagos, has collapsed and injuring one person in the process.

The ill-fated structure at No. 15, Oke Arin, off Shillon, Onipanu, came down midnight Wednesday during a downpour.

Nobody died in the incident, but an old man was said to have sustained minor wounds.

The house, which had reportedly shown distress signs, was being used before it collapsed.

It was learnt that members of the four families occupying the building escaped when they noticed that it was shaking and was about to collapse.

Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West region, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident.

“Efforts are on for the families to retrieve their personal belongings,” he added

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who were on the ground had also concluded rescue operations at the site of the collapsed building.

According to the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the abandoned two-storey building collapsed to ground zero.

He said investigation revealed that the incident occurred due to the aging of the structure.

He said one adult male who sustained injuries had been taken to a hospital.
