Supporters and opponents of impeached Plateau speaker, Hon. Abok Ayuba Nuhu, clashed within the premises of the assembly on Monday.
Our correspondent reports that doors and windows of the assembly complex were destroyed during the clash.
Daily Trust had earlier reported how hundreds of youths converged on the assembly to protest the impeachment of Abok, who was removed on Thursday.
He was replaced with him Sanda Yakubu, representing Pengana constituency.
While security operatives were controlling protesters outside the house, some thugs suddenly gained access to the house from the back of the house.
The security personnel were taken by surprise when the thugs made their way into the premises of the assembly complex, in their attempt to gain entrance to get into the chamber, adding that the clash led to the destruction of the glass door, leading to the chamber.
While members of the anti-Abok group were battling the police, a youth group perceived to be pro-Abok also stormed the Assembly premises which led to a to clash between the groups.
Our correspondent reports that there has not been vehicular movements along the road leading to the house.
However, a member of the assembly who is loyal to the impeached speaker, Hon. Timothy Dantong, said the 12 members loyal to Abok would not leave the complex until the impeached speaker was reinstated.
He said: “We are not leaving the house because this is where our immunity lies and such we shall continue to stay until Abok is brought back. The governor is currently holding a meeting with some members of the pro and anti impeached speaker.”
