Renowned African undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has reacted to FIFA’s life ban of Ghana’s former Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, after a film by Anas caught the football boss collecting a bribe of $65, 000 in violation of their ethics code including bribery and corruption.
Anas who was speaking at a session at the Africa Investigative Journalism Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, said, “I have not seen the story and so I would say no comment. I am not one who rejoices at another’s misfortune. I did not fight against a personality but against a system and I am happy the system has been brought down.”
According to a Reuters report, Nyantakyi, a former member of FIFA’s general council, was found guilty after being filmed in a hotel room appearing to be receiving the bribe from a supposed businessman seeking to sponsor the Ghanaian football league.
Nyantakyi was also fined 500,000 Swiss Francs ($498,000).
