Youths made up of 34 groups across various denominations and towns in Anambra State have declared their support for Obiora Okonkwo, candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.

The youths groups made their stand known during a town hall meeting with Obiora in Awka, the state capital, on Thursday evening.

The theme of the town hall meeting was ‘Political, Socio & Economic development of Anambra State’.

They said the ZLP candidate remained the most prepared to pull the state out from dungeon of economic hardship to the pedestal of economic growth and development.

The youth groups who spoke in their numbers expressed disappointment at the performances of the previous administrations and said that time has come to change the narrative and to elect capable leader that would not only pilot the affairs of the state but also turn around the fortune of the people.

A youth leader, Mr. Stephen Okeke, decried the terrible state of roads in the state, especially the Awka- Amansea old road, which had put the citizens, resident in the state to undue sufferings.

He also stated that time has gone when politicians used palatable words to deceive the youths and subject them to perpetual sufferings.

Also speaking, the National President of Igbo socio cultural group, Igbo-Ezue International, John Nwabueze, urged the youths to change the narrative in the state by massively voting for the right candidate that would take care their needs.

The convener of the meeting, Comrade Uchechukwu Paul, said Okonkwo has connections and his antecedents speak volume of the impact he would make if elected the governor.

Earlier at the event, the ZLP Anambra chapter chairman, Comrade Uche Ugwoji, urged the people to shun vote buying.

Ugwoji who represented the party flag bearer, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, at the event said the ZLP chose wisely to present a candidate without a godfather.

According to him, the party considered the billionaire businessman because of his vision to reposition the state through effective and efficient leadership.
