Anambra State International Cargo and Passengers Airport will commence commercial operations on October 30, 2021, the state has announced.
This was made known by the Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, in Awka, the state capital.

According to him, the first commercial passenger plane will land at the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport at Umueri, thereby signalling the commencement of commercial activities at the airport.
He said the airport took only 15 months to construct with state resources, without borrowing money from any financial institution.
He said that with the take-off of the airport, the sufferings of travellers, traders, and other businessmen will be solved.
“I believe that with the commencement of commercial activities at the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, and soon-to-be-launched 10,000 capacity Anambra International Convention Centre, Anambra state is entering a new era of economic development and prosperity,” he said.
