Anambra 2021: Why my mother is backing me for gov’ship – Etiaba’s son

The candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the November 6 Anambra State governorship election, Chief Ben Etiaba, has said that his mother and first female governor in Nigeria, Dame Virginia Ngozi Etiaba, was not his ‘godfather’ or ‘godmother’, but was backing his aspiration in the interest of the state and also as a responsible mother.

He said this on Saturday in Abuja at a media briefing of the AA to unveiled him as the party’s candidate for the Anambra elections after his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daily Trust reports that Dame Etiaba, emerged first female governor in Nigeria from November 2006 to February 2007, after the impeachment of Mr. Peter Obi, by the state legislature for alleged gross misconduct.

According to him, his mother is his spiritual back and that his governorship aspiration had spiritual undertone from beginning to the end.

“My mother has always prayed for me. Right from day one of this process until today, every mother wants the best for their son. Obviously, her own is not different, she is a Christian and she knows that Gods’ will be done and her prayer is that God will align with her with and for her son to occupy whichever post he wants to occupy,” Etiaba said.

He also said that his campaign will formally commence on August 8, and later with a flag-off rally in Awka, the state capital in two weeks.

On some of his agenda for the state, Chief Etiaba said if elected as governor in the state he will deliver integrated infrastructure, by spearheading a servant leadership that would ensure there are no potholes in the state.

He said he would complete all abandoned infrastructure projects in the state and return the lost fortune using agriculture to curb unemployment and make agriculture very attractive.

“I would motivate medical personnel at home and ensure that medical practitioners in Diaspora return. Women will have 50 percent of appointees in my government if elected.

“Over the years I have mentored young Nigerians, If I become the governor of Anambra state. I will partner with the youths and will also share government 50-50 with the youths. I will also give priority to education, sport, and other vocational training that will return the fortune of the state,” he added.

He said he will provide a mono-rail to make transportation more flexible among other plans to engender smooth movement in the state.

Speaking earlier the National Chairman of the party, Hon. Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, Etiaba join on 29 July 29 2021 and become the candidate of the party for Anambra election.

“Hon. Etiaba asked for a waiver, the NEC of the party and the National Think Thank Committee (NTTC) approved it. We are on course to making history as our party and candidate would surely be elected the nest Anambra State Governor.
