Anambra 2021: INEC, bane of Nigeria’s democracy – ADC

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralphs Nwosu, has described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the major problem confronting Nigeria’s democracy.

Nwosu, who spoke to Daily Trust shortly after the inauguration of executive members of ADC, Anambra State chapter, at the weekend, said that if INEC was sincere with the conduct of credible elections in Nigeria, democracy would have gone beyond what it is in the country presently.

He said INEC had not conducted credible elections for Nigerians and as a result, Nigeria had not gotten her elections right since 22 years ago.

According to him, without a credible election, democracy is in danger.

“If we have gotten our election right by now, ADC would have formed governments in Oyo, Ogun and Adamawa states.

“ADC would have a minimum of 20 Senators and over 100 members in House of Representatives.

“But INEC is still not credible in the conduct of election in Nigeria. Election is part of the problems in our democracy.

“We embarked on this journey 22 years ago. By now, we supposed to have crossed the hurdle of conducting credible election and getting a responsible government. Unfortunately, we have not.

According to him, the country is facing security challenges because of bad leadership resulting from the fraudulent election processes.

On the Anambra election, he urged the people to reject the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress in the November governorship election because they have failed.

He added that he designed and built APGA but left when the party derailed from the original concept and became a trading machine, where the highest bidder gets it all.

He said the workers in the state were suffering because of poor leadership and called on the people to align with ADC for development.

“For Anambra workers, we feel your plight. For we are all in it. While the civil servants that have invested over 20 years in services can hardly afford a decent meal, the political leaders have become multi-millionaires and billionaires.

He said the era of complaining in Anambra was over, urging the people to align with ADC to usher in an economic and progressive society that have been denied over the years.
