The Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA, has unveiled the shortlists for its 2017 Literary Prizes.
The judges of this year’s contests comprised of Prof. Nelson Fashina – University of Ibadan, Salihu Mohammed Bappa- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ismaila Bala Garba – Bayero University, Kano, Dr Owojecho Omoha- University of Abuja and Dame Joan Oji – Educational & Literary Consultant, Abuja submitted the list to the prize administrators.
For the ANA Prose Fiction Prize, four books made the cut. The Devil’s Pawn by Kukogho Iruesiri, What it Takes by Lola Akande, Across The Gulf by Dul Johnson and Goodbye Tomorrow by Ike Utuagha are in the running for the prize.
In the drama category, The Masked Crown by Tunji Ajibade, General Ologbosere by Dickson Ekhaguere, Magnetism by R C Ofodile, Oh Obedeki by Solomon Iguanre and Tony Wants to Marry by Jerry Alagbaoso are the shortlisted works.
Of Waters and the Wild by Ebi Yeibo, For Every Homeland by Obari Gomba, A Child of Smell by Seyi Adigun and Maiduguri Requiems by Patrick Oguejiofor have been shortlisted in the poetry category.
For the ANA/Abubakar Gimba Prize for Short Stories, A Tiny Place Called Happiness -Bura-Bari Nwilo, Gates of Dawn – MSC Okolo, and Tales From Our Past – Lucky James were listed for honourable mentions.
The same also applied to the ANA Children Literature Prize whereThe Adventure of Three Wild Boys – Wale Adewale, Sodality: A Tale of Friendship – Chioma A Diru and Dancing Tree – Stanley Okeke Oji were listed for honourable mentions.
In the ANA/ Maria Ajima Prize for Literary Criticism, Radical Theatre and Criticism of anti-People’s Culture: A Study of Esiaba Irobi’s Hangmen also Die’’ by Nwagbo Pat -Obi, “Vicarious Idiosyncrasies”: The Mother-Daughter Ligament in Ernest Emenyonu’s Listen , My Momma Pays Your Taxes by Fynest Elvis where shortlisted.
Winners of the prizes will be announced at the awards dinner of the 36th International Annual Convention of ANA coming up on Saturday 28th October, 2016 in Makurdi, Benue State.
