Clare Ezeakacha is the producer of the newly released movie ‘Gone Grey.’ Ezeakacha, also a radio personality, talks about her love for the radio, how her debut movie was produced and more.

Weekend Magazine: You produced your first movie ‘Gone Grey,’ premiered last April. What was the experience like?
Clare Ezeakacha:
It was totally amazing, a new experience for me, but I pulled through.
WM: Has producing a movie been something of a life-long dream for you?
Ezeakacha:
Well, I could say yes. I’ve always wanted to be on the set of movies, not as an actor though, but to oversee activities.
WM: Your movie featured Judith Audu, Tamara Eteimo, Funso Adeolu, Stan Nze and you worked alongside co-producer Seyi Hunter and director Sobe Charles Umeh. What did it take to get such people on board the project?
Ezeakacha:
All thanks to my director, he made it easy for me. He has been in the industry for a while so he knows his way around. I have seen quite a number of movies done by Tamara and I told him I would want her on ‘Gone Grey’, same with Uncle Funsho and Judith. I had met Stan a couple of times and he blew my mind with ‘Murder at Prime Suites,’ so yes I wanted all of them.
WM: What challenges did you encounter?
Ezeakacha:
There were no major challenges though, but if I should think hard, I would say time and location.
WM: If you are to give a ‘how to’ to someone aspiring to be a producer, what will be your response?
Ezeakacha:
Always think out of the box, repetitive acts kill productivity. Be more creative and learn how to captivate your audience.
WM: What do you do aside producing movies?
Ezeakacha:
I develop content for radio stations, I do voice over, and I’m a baby blogger.
WM: You have worked as a radio host. How will you compare its thrill to making a movie?
Ezeakacha:
I love the radio any day, any time. The movie part has lots of people with diverse characters all displayed at a time. Fun as it may be I love the Radio MIC, I love that I can talk and express myself, with caution though.
WM: What was your first experience on radio like?
Ezeakacha:
I was tensed but filled with excitement. First thing I did on radio was news reading. I am thankful to Radio Bayelsa for the opportunity before I moved to Enugu.
WM: What will you say is your strongest selling point as a person?
Ezeakacha:
It’s my voice.
WM: Have you considered acting?
Ezeakacha:
No. Well, I never get to say never, but no.
WM: Producers are prone to have a gigantic dream, a kind or quality of movie topmost on their bucket list. What is yours?
Ezeakacha:
I’ll like to have on my list movies like: ‘The Great Gatsby.’ I will love to work with an actor like Leonardo Di Caprio. Also, ‘Pay it forward.’ I loved the story line, a simple class experiment made a whole statement. Then there’s ‘Gone Girl.’ The suspense was worth every second of the movie. I will love to make movies not just for the pictures but to make a very big difference and leave an impact.
