Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said the Southwest Security Network, Amotekun, will kick off in the state this January, after about nine months of delay.
The bill establishing the security outfit had been passed by the assembly and assented to in March, 2020 by the governor.
But Abiodun, in his new year broadcast on Friday in Abeokuta, said the implementation would now begin in January. It would take off with the appointment of the Amotekun commandant who will be a retired Commissioner of Police.
Apart from Amotekun, the state government will also commence the implementation of Residents Identification Cards, to provide a reliable database of the people living in the state.
