It was learnt that youths in the area had organised a New Year carnival, but the Amotekun operatives ordered them to end the party.
A source from the area told reporters in Ibadan on phone that; “The boys were having a carnival and probably they are expected to close by 10 pm, which they didn’t. The Amotekun operatives told them to stop, which took the boys some time to stop the sound.
“In the course of trying to stop the carnival, there was an argument between the boys and the Amotekun operatives and the boys threw stones at them.
“The Amotekun operatives fired shots to disperse the boys but some people were hit by the bullets and three have been confirmed dead while many people were injured.
Commandant of Amotekun Corps in the state, Col. Olayinka Olayanju, when contacted, confirmed that there was a clash in the area, but did not give details of what happened.
He said, “I am on my way to Tapa. I can’t tell you anything now until I investigate,” he said.
