Amnesty International Nigeria has concluded arrangements for seven secondary schools in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to compete in two leading sports, football and basketball for human rights.
According to the organizers, the tournament which will run for three days, beginning from today at Government secondary school Tudun-Wada, Zone 4 Abuja is part of activities lined up for this year’s Write for Rights campaign.

“The purpose of the Write for Rights campaign is to mobilize millions of people around the world on International Human Rights Day, December 10, to use the power of letter-writing to influence world leaders to protect individuals or communities whose human rights have been denied.
“The football and basketball tournaments which will feature six secondary schools in Abuja will be concluded on Friday, November 18, 2022.
“For over 20 years, Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights campaign has transformed the lives of people whose rights have been wronged. Using the power of their words, Write for Rights supporters have united behind a common purpose: together, we can change lives for the better,” said the organisers in a statement released yesterday.
The human rights group also said the sport tournament is a new way of bringing attention of youth to human rights through the dynamism of sports.
The selected schools are Government Secondary school Wuse Zone 3, Pykasa, Maitama, Tudun-Wada, Mabushi, Kubwa and Garki.
