Aminiya-Trust releases 2020 Hausa story contest longlist

The Aminiya-Trust Short Story Writing contest has released a longlist of 20.

This was contained in a release signed by Ibrahim Malumfashi on behalf of the administrators of the prize.

Those longlisted include: Mubarak Idris Abubakar (from Kano State) for his story ‘Tufka da Warwara’, Nasiru Kainuwa Hadejiya (Jigawa) for ‘Tsalle Daya’, Maryam Umar Sakkwato (Sokoto) for ‘Kazar Kwanci’, Faridat Hussain Mshellia (Niger) for Zabin Allah, Yaseer Kallah (Kano) for Komai Nisan Dare, Mujaheed Amin Lilo (Kano) for ‘Qawalwalniya’, Ismail Gambo (Yobe) for ‘Ci Ga Rashi’, Sadiq Tijjani Inuwa Katsina) for ‘Romon Baka’, Salim Yunusa (Kaduna) for ‘Tsaka Mai Wuya’, and Basira Sabo Nadabo (Kaduna) for ‘Baki Guba Ne’.

Others are: Jigawa State’s Hajara Ahmad Hussaini for her story ‘Igiyar Linkaya’, Yakubu Saidu for ‘Fan Taba Sama’, Sokoto’s Ubaidah Usman for ‘Ranar Kin Dillanci’, Kano’s Rufaida Umar Ibrahim, for ‘Dimokuraɗiyyar Talaka’, Aisha B. The Aminiya-Trust Short Story Writing Contest was founded to provide a space for stories in Hausa language.

The 2020 theme, ‘Democracy and Political Development in Nigeria’ is aimed at exposing the tribulations faced by Nigerians within the realm of politics and democracy.

The competition is currently being supported by Aminiya-Trust, Gandun Kalmomi and Open Arts Development Foundation on behalf of Media Trust Nigeria Limited, the publishers of Aminiya and Daily Trust Newspapers.

268 entries were submitted for the competition, which was passed to a preliminary group of readers comprising of university lecturers and writers.

Stories by the finalists will be edited and published into a collection in November 2020 and the results of the contest will be released in December 2020.

An award ceremony, which would double as the book launch, will be held on January 2 2021 in Kaduna where the prize money and certificates would be issued.
