African Media Initiative (AMI) has appointed the Chairman of Media Trust Limited, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, to chair its board.
This was contained in a letter signed by AMI’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Roukaya Kasenally.
According to Dr. Kasenally, the nomination of Mr Yusuf is deemed to be most relevant for an organization like AMI for multiple reasons.
“Nigeria is one of the largest and among the most dynamic media markets and it was important to have a key media player from that region within AMI’s board leadership.
“Also after nearly 8 years of board leadership under Mr Trevor Ncube – Chair of the Alpha Media Holdings from Southern Africa, it was important to pass on the board leadership to Western Africa.
“This was the rationale when Wale Aboderin was selected to be AMI’s Chair and unfortunately he left us too soon.
“Following Wale’s passing away, Management set out in search of his replacement. I am pleased to report that Mr Kabiru Yusuf – founder and Chair of the Media Trust Limited of Nigeria has graciously agreed to take the responsibilities of the AMI Chair.
“I would like to once again personally thank you for agreeing to be on the board of the African Media Initiative (AMI) and continue to lend your support to the organization.
“Once Mr Kabiru Yusuf officially assumes his position, we shall organize for the first board meeting under his leadership. I thank you for your support always and will be in touch soon,” the letter reads.
