American rapper arrested minutes after winning 3 Grammy Awards

Killer Mike, a rapper and activist who won three Grammys on Sunday, was arrested by Los Angeles police shortly after his triumph at the awards show.

The Hollywood Reporter, a trade website, posted a video of Mike being handcuffed and taken away from Crypto.com Arena, where he had just received his trophies at the Grammys’ Premiere Ceremony.

According to Officer Mike Lopez, a police spokesperson, Mike was involved in a dispute inside the venue around 4 p.m. and was charged with a misdemeanor.

Backstage, the 48-year-old Mike had said his age did not limit him as long as he was honest about his life.

He won best rap performance, rap song and rap album.

He said he used to be a drug dealer at 20, but regretted his actions at 40.

“I started to rap about my past at 45, and now I am a man with empathy and sympathy at 48,” he revealed.

His first Grammy of the night was for best rap performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” which also won best rap song. The track features Andre 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane.

He also won best rap album for “Michael.”

His last Grammy before Sunday was in 2003, when he and Outkast won best rap performance by a duo or group for “The Whole World.”

He celebrated his third win by shouting, “Sweep! Atlanta, it’s a sweep!” He is based in Atlanta.

Mike is also known as a member of Run the Jewels, a duo with producer El-P, and as a social-political activist who advocates for Black people’s rights, racial justice and Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential bid.

He hosted “Trigger Warning with Killer Mike,” a 2019 Netflix series about Black issues. He also urged protesters to stop violence during a police brutality demonstration in Atlanta.
