The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and the Minister of State, Sen. Gbemisola Rukayyat Saraki on Monday inspected the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge.
This is the first time Saraki would join Amaechi in inspecting the $2.1billion rail project, the star project in the Ministry of Transportation.
Saraki, a former Senator and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state was recently appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry.
The inspection which started from the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) headquarters in Lagos took the team comprising the NRC Chairman, Al-Hassan Ibrahim, NRC Managing Director, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, among other to Nigeria’s premier port at Apapa.
Daily Trust reports that the Lagos-Ibadan speed train which initially stops at Ebute-Metta was later extended to Apapa to decongest the port.
Many warehouses and terminals are expected to be partly demolished for the project.
The visit to the port today was to ascertain the extent of work and engagement with owners of warehouses and buildings which would be partly demolished for the project.
The contractor, the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) said it has completed the track laying from Lagos to Ibadan.
