Amaechi cautioned us against inviting him for APC meetings — Rivers chair

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it doesn’t know the current political status of a former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi.

Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers, Chief Tony Okocha, stated this on Tuesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, while briefing newsmen on the state of affairs in the state.

Recall that Amaechi came second in the 2022 APC primary poll that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 election.

Since then, Amaechi, a former transportation minister, lost his voice in the polity and was said to have not campaigned for the party during last year’s general elections.

Responding to a question on whether Amaechi was still an active member of the APC in the state, Okocha said, “I was Chief of Staff to Rotimi Ameachi. Recall that at one point, he got into the law school and from the one year in law school, he became incommunicado.

“You also are aware that after the presidential primary election, he disappeared into thin air. So, whether he is still a party member or not, I wouldn’t know because all the meetings we called, he didn’t show up.

“I give you an example of a meeting we called for all the former governors and ministers. He (Ameachi) sent a message to the secretary of the party and warned him never to dare send him a message about the party again. So, when you meet him, ask him where he belongs. For me, I don’t know where he belongs.”

Reacting to a question on whether a former governor of the state and current Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, influences decisions of the Rivers State APC, Okocha said he is not a card-carrying member of the APC and does not do so.

However, Amaechi could not be reached for comments at press time.
