The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has partnered with the European Union and the German government to provide innovative solutions to the issue of waste management in the council.
The project termed Abuja Urban Lab, aimed at supporting cities in meeting the dual challenges of climate change and access to sustainable energy to achieve low-emission, climate resilient and sustainable energy future.
Speaking at the launch Thursday in Abuja, The Cluster coordinator for GIZ, Duke Benjamin, said the project is focused on addressing the pressing challenges of waste governance in AMAC.
The Director, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Engr. Osi Braimah, said waste management in Abuja faced significant challenges as the city is defaced with indiscriminate dumping of refuse by residents and scavengers, popularly known as “Baban Bola.”

On his part, the Chairman of AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu, said the council was committed to environmental stewardship.
