Almajiri will soon enjoy free education – Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has disclosed that his administration has mapped out plans to integrate the Almajiri into the free, compulsory education policy of the state.

Governor Ganduje stated this in Kaduna yesterday while declaring open a three day retreat for Executive Council Members, Permanent Secretaries and top government functionaries.

The Governor stated that his administration would give priority to education and healthcare services and assured that education would be free and compulsory from basic to secondary levels in the state.

He further revealed that the government has mapped out a strategy to address the issues through a blueprint, saying, “we are going to receive a report on the statistics of out of school children and already we are discussing with the operators of the Almajiri school on integration of the system through either merging the Almajiri schools into the conventional primary school system, or posting teachers to schools with large number of the Almajiri.”

Earlier in his presentation, Dr. Muhammed Sagagi of DFID said, Kano has a fast growing population without an economy prosperous enough to shoulder the responsibility of the growing population, and advised the government to grow the economy and ensure a healthy fiscal status for the state.
