Alhaji Muhammadu Yakubu, district head of Dundaye in Wamakko LGA of Sokoto State has advocated for a comprehensive approach to strengthen the Almajiri school system in line with current realities.

Yakubu spoke at his palace in Dundaye during the district’s Qur’anic recitation competition organised by the Sokoto State Qur’anic Recitation Competition Committee.

He said the federal and state governments, as well as individuals and politicians have an obligation to re-position the system to ensure discipline.

The district head said government intervention will ensure discipline among the youths, thereby addressing one of the major challenges in the country.

“Parents and guardians should support the government in its effort by monitoring the activities of children under their care for the intervention to succeed,” he said.

Yakubu commended Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State for his dedication towards the revival of the education sector in the state.

He assured total support to government policies and programmes in the state, and commended the Qur’anic Recitation Committee for the initiative.

At the end of the competition, the panel of judges led by Malam Bello Aliyu, announced Mustapha Musa and Hassan Magaji of Nurul Islam Islamiyya, Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS), as winners in the 60 and 40 Hizb category, respectively.

In the female category, Asma’u Labaran-Lumu, representing late Muhammad Ayah Institute for Islamic Education Dundaye, came first in two Hizb category, while Suwaiba Kabir from Nurul Islam Islamiyya, UDUS led the 10 Hizb category. (NAN)
