The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has described as unacceptable reports of discovery of 21 Muslim children at a worship centre in Jos, Plateau State.

Daily Trust had reported how the Department of State Services (DSS) rescued the children who were allegedly forcefully converted to Christianity.

Reacting through its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, CNG recalled that “similar incident had occurred with some children stolen from Kano and forcefully moved and converted to Christianity in the South-East with no action taken by authorities.”

“We view such incidents as deliberate provocation and gross affront to adherents of certain religions aimed at causing greater conflict in the land.

“We invite the attention of those perpetrating these acts of provocation to desist forthwith and be guided by the decent rule of Islamic tolerance that says, there is no compulsion in religion.

“We find it curious that some people would abduct little children, forcefully move them to other lands and abuse their rights all in the name of religion.

“We condemn with all our might this form of involuntary forced conversion through coercion, or violence, as we are all aware that proselytism is illegal in this country,” Suleiman said.
