The National Coalition of Health Interns (NCHI) has threatened to consider relocating to other countries where their services are much appreciated due to the exclusion of their members in the federal government’s approved upward review of hazard allowances.
This was contained in a statement issued by NCHI in Kano and jointly signed by NCHI’s National Secretary, Usman Bello Zogirma and its National Coordinator, Joshua Johaida James.
NCHI said in the statement that it had threatened to go on strike but received a letter from the Ministry of Health referenced DHS/828/T2/142 requesting that NCHI should not disrupt services, but rather forward their lists through their Chief Medical Directors (CMDs)/MDs to the ministry for the payment of the arrears.
It further revealed that after the directive, it was discovered that only the permanent staff of all cadres and intern doctors were paid.

The statement added that a similar letter was also addressed to all the CMDs/MDs requesting them to forward NCHI members lists on or before the 13th day of January 2023.
It added that after complying, NCHI found out that while few CMDs complied with the directives many have decided not to.
